Hey! I’m Kit, and I’m glad you’re here.
Your voice is an exceptionally personal instrument, and it should be fun for you to use it! Let’s explore new ways to make music. Together, we’ll make sure it is uniquely yours.
With over 25 years of experience singing in choirs, bands, and solo, I can help you define your sound. I’ll also make sure your voice stays healthy while doing it.
Why Singing Lessons?
Singing is not just for naturally talented people. If you can make a noise come out of your mouth, you can be a singer. You don’t need to carry a tune or have any knowledge of music to pursue singing lessons. Your voice is an instrument, and you can learn how to play it. Schedule a free lesson at my studio in North Seattle to learn what voice lessons can do for you.
Voice Lessons Can:
Build Your Confidence
Singing is personal, and being capable of expressing yourself through voice in front of others is a huge confidence booster.
A lot of vocal warm ups and exercises are kinda goofy. When you incorporate silliness into a regular warm up, it builds resilience to embarrassment. You can become more self-assured by learning how to overcome the fear of looking silly or sounding weird.
When you practice singing, you gain better control over your voice. You’ll develop skills like breath control, more precise pitch, and how to change your tone quality. Having more control over your voice will increase the confidence you have to use it.
Singing just feels good! The whole-body feedback you get from making sounds is a natural dopamine enhancer. This is especially true when they are the sounds you want to make. Feeling connected to your body is a great way to build your confidence.
Improve Your Posture
Part of vocal training includes helping you build good breath control. It also improves your posture. These skills inevitably carry over into your daily routine.
You’ll learn how to stay relaxed with a strong, grounded stance. The body awareness you build while practicing vocal exercises will carry over into other areas of your life.
I’ve found that vocal training has even helped me be a better runner! I can relax my breathing while maintaining an engaged core.
The posture and relaxation exercises used in voice training eventually become second nature with time and practice. You’ll learn to carry yourself in a way that supports muscle and skeletal balance.
Improve Your Natural Speaking Voice
Speaking and singing are intertwined. If you are learning how to increase resonance and enunciate clearly while singing, you will also be learning to do that while speaking.
You’ll learn how to recognize how much air you need for your next sentence or phrase. This means you’ll have a more natural cadence when reading aloud or delivering that key presentation. Public speaking is hard, but voice training can make it easier.
While you learn more vocal control and develop your singing tone, your speaking voice will naturally follow. You will apply techniques for volume, tone, communicating emotion, and emphasis to speaking just as you do with singing.
Keep Your Voice Healthy
The root of voice lessons is a focus on a healthy voice. You will learn tools to properly warm up, how to feel when you are straining your voice, how to relax out of that strain, and how to make sure you can keep singing and speaking for a long performance and for life.
You might be a jazz singer or a metal screamer. Either way, voice lessons will help you learn to care for your voice so that you can keep doing what you love — for as long as you keep loving it.
Ever gotten back from the bar, an awesome concert, or a weekend conference and found your voice hoarse and tired from talking louder than you usually do? You’re experiencing vocal strain, but you don’t have to!
Vocal lessons can help you find the volume, tone, and enunciation you need to be understood in loud environments — without getting laryngitis.
My Teaching Style
Every student is different, and I want to make sure our lessons are tailored to your learning style. I run a student-guided curriculum that incorporates the fundamentals of voice training while working on what you like to sing.
My studio is a no-judgment zone and an inclusive space. You deserve to learn in an environment that lets you be your authentic self.
Are you looking to work on your voice in tandem with another singer? Want to learn how to harmonize and blend your tone with someone else? I offer small group lessons and am happy to work with you as a duo or as a full band.

Gender Affirming Vocal Coaching

As a transgender nonbinary singer, I know firsthand some of the struggles and fears of vocal dysphoria. Changing your voice — either with or without hormones — is a deeply personal journey.
Especially if you’ve been a singer for a long time, it can be really scary to think about changing your sound. It can also be very exciting! I will always put your needs and goals first in our lessons. We can also incorporate speaking coaching along with singing if that is something you want to work on together.
Testimonials
My experience taking lessons from Kit has been nothing short of a pleasure. From the start, they did a great job of identifying the aspects of my voice and singing that I’ve wanted to improve on and I’ve felt my confidence grow after every lesson.
I feel excited going into a lesson knowing that I’ll be making progress but also having a fun time. Kit is engaging, attentive, and SO skilled at providing feedback in a constructive and helpful way. Singing in front of another person can be intimidating and vulnerable, but they make sure to ask me how I feel about exercises or how exercises are making my voice feel, which makes a big difference. I’d recommend lessons with Kit to anyone who is looking for a productive, safe, and fun environment to grow as a singer.

I started taking lessons from Kit to become a stronger singer and quickly learned that there are so many more facets to singing than I thought! I’ve had so many “a-ha!” moments since I started – it makes me wonder how many years I’ve missed out on becoming a stronger musician. Kit is a very calming, reassuring presence with a lot of knowledge. It has been a game changer to have their outside perspective on something I’ve been doing all my life. I highly recommend trying them out!

Kit is a fantastic human, teacher, friend, and all around great person to have in your corner. I’ve been taking a once a month lesson for a few months, and have seen a great amount of improvement in my ability to sing without destroying my voice. I had a habit of singing overly loud without any true support from my diaphragm, and would feel hoarse after a 30 minute set (I play drums and usually only sing backup parts).
After an awkward but fun lesson involving imaginary eggs in the back of my mouth, and learning a gentle support provided by the diaphragm, I was able to feel a difference almost instantly. I haven’t completely mastered this yet, as I’m trying to memorize the feeling, but I’ve performed live several nights in a row without issue. Even with a new group in which I’m singing lead on 5-6 tunes a night.
Kit makes the lessons funny and engaging, and makes me think that I could someday sing without the protective shield of a drum set surrounding me (although that’s more of an anxiety issue). I highly recommend getting some lessons!
